How We Got Here
Dirtee Paws was born out of love, gratitude, and a lot of dog hair (my dude challenged the Roomba each and every day)—a tribute to my Boxer, Cane, who was more than just a pet; he was my partner in crime. In November 2011, an 8-week-old Cane came home with me, and my life was never the same. I was renting my grandparents' house at the time, which came with a nice yard—a perfect spot for a rambunctious puppy with endless energy (and zero chill). Fast forward to March 2013, the house was sold, and Cane and I embarked on what felt like a game of “Where’s Our New Home?” We moved four times in four years - my friend AJ's place, then to a small one bedroom, then a pit stop at my parents, before finally buying a townhome in Coconut Grove, FL in 2017.
Cane wasn’t just my dog; he was my furry plus-one, my ride-or-die. He went everywhere with me, earning his title as the best wingman of all time. He stuck by my side through career changes, life’s curveballs, and the biggest plot twist—meeting my wife, Megan. Megan came with her own sidekick, Abby, a wire-haired Dachshund who quickly became part of our squad. Cane welcomed them both with open paws, and together we started our little Grove life. Cane’s charm was unmatched—friends, family, other dogs—he loved everyone, and everyone loved him. He was the perfect mix of chill and playful, a dog who somehow made being awesome look effortless.
Then came the news no pet parent wants to hear. In May 2023, Cane was diagnosed with cancer. It felt like the world stopped spinning, but Cane, in true Cane fashion, handled it with courage and a wagging tail. For 14 months, he fought like the champ he was, and we treasured every single moment with him. On July 22, 2024, he passed away peacefully, leaving a Cane-shaped hole in my heart that no amount of belly rubs or treats could ever fill.
He wasn’t just a good dog—he was THE dog. My rock through 13 incredible years, he taught me about loyalty, resilience, and unconditional love. Dirtee Paws is my way of saying thank you to him, a way to honor the joy he brought to my life. And let’s be honest, it’s also my way of keeping his legacy alive—because a dog like Cane deserves nothing less.
